DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: A top community choir in Melbourne's north; the objectives of ARCappella are to encourage and develop the vocal talent of people in Darebin, to achieve a high level of expertise within the choir, promoting self esteem and self worth amongst its members, and to perform at community festivals and other occasions and participate as part of the community

No. of years in current post: since 2008

Previous musical experience: David Perry has been the conductor of ARCappella since 2008, and has written compositions and arrangements that are now part of the choir’s repertoire; he commenced his Music studies with the piano teacher Pamela Page at the University of Queensland in 1989, eventually graduating as a Music and English teacher; he taught in outback NSW before moving to Melbourne in 1998; during his teaching career, David has had ongoing choral training, working with the Australian Youth Choir and a number of school choirs, including at his present school,Watsonia North Primary School, where he is the Co-ordinator of Performing Arts; David's teaching experience has been varied and interesting – he has taught Music and Music Education at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels; David has also written educational material for outside organisations including the Melbourne Festival and Sydney Symphony

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: No, new members are welcome at any time

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: No Concerts: No

Membership Fees: $60 per term

Ability to read music: Desirable but not necessary

Sight-reading ability: Desirable but not necessary

Sample of the Choir's past Concert Venues: Darebin Music Feast, Community events, Citizenship ceremonies, Choral Festivals; Term 4 is usually devoted to the Christmas Choir with performances specifically designed for this programme

Examples of musical pieces performed: Drive My Car, We Will Rock You, Rubber Duckie, Goodbye Sweetheart, I'll Be There, Sign your name, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Dubula, Somewhere, God Only Knows; Term 4 is usually devoted to the Christmas Choir which includes local concerts in the community such as the Boulevard Christmas Lights, Federation Square and aged care centres, etc
