DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: The Australian Girls Choir celebrates 26 years of providing high quality education and wonderful performance opportunities to many thousands of girls from across the country; girls aged five to eighteen years are trained in song, dance and drama on a weekly basis in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney; the choir's reputation as Australia’s most dynamic girls’ choir has been established in hundreds of high profile performances at home and abroad

No. of Singing Members - Currently: over 3500 nationally

Musical Repertoire: AGC has a diverse repertoire including Australiana, Broadway show tunes, contemporary, African spirituals, folk songs

Musical Director: Judith Curphey

No. of years in current post: since 1984

Previous musical experience: Judith founded the choir in 1984; prior to that Judith had a distinguished career as a music educator and Director of Music for over 20 years in Victorian schools

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: The Australian Girl Choir has a long and successful partnership with Qantas and joins with the National Boys Choir and Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir to perform as the Qantas Choir; the Australian Girls Choir has also performed with numerous solo artists, at public engagements and tours extensively

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: No – all girls are invited to attend a complimentary class at their nearest rehearsal venue; girls are placed in one of the choir’s training levels based on age and ability

Membership Fees: Fees vary according to level

Ability to read music: Not necessary

Sight-reading ability: Not necessary

PERFORMANCES

Performance Apparel: Costumes vary according to level, adhering to a theme of purple and pink

Av. No. of Concert Programs/year: All choristers perform in the choir’s two main concerts each year, held at major theatres and concert halls

Av. No. of Performances/year: Senior choristers are invited to participate in additional high profile public engagements and events including sporting events, corporate functions, charity galas and television appearances
