DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: To perform beautiful choral music to the highest standard

Voice type: SATB

Choir performs: Both accompanied & unaccompanied

Year Choir formed: 2008

No. of Singing Members - Currently: 30 Desired: 38, particularly Basses

Musical Repertoire: Varied choral music from early music to 21st century works; pieces are frequently moderate to difficult; the choir likes to perform at least one concert a year with Australian choral compositions

Musical Director: Dan Walker

No. of years in current post: since 2015

Previous musical experience: Dan is past Chorus Master for the Sydney Symphony and was Associate Conductor of Gondwana Choirs from 2006 - 2014; he is now both Musical Director of Choristry and the newly created "Habeas Chorus", a choir for Melbourne's legal community

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Video Games Live 2015, Festival of Voices 2014 International choirs program and 2012 featured classical choir, Folksongs CD produced by George Torbay 2013, Life Before Death documentary soundtrack by Adam Starr 2011

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: Yes - informal audition with MD consisting of vocal exercises, range test and sight singing exercises

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: No

Membership Fees: $100 ticket bond per concert (4 discount tickets) plus music purchases if required ($20-$40)

Ability to read music: Essential

Sight-reading ability: Highly desirable
