DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: A group of women of all ages, with a love of singing and performing a capella, 4-part a capella Barbershop-style harmony; performances offer an exciting visual and musical entertainment package; the chorus aims to improve members' abilities as ensemble singers and performers, and to enjoy the company of like-minded women with the rush of regular performances and competitions around the Geelong area, and occasionally, interstate and overseas

Musical Repertoire: Various 4-part harmonies including modern, Australian, upbeat, swing, ballads, show tunes and Christmas carols

Musical Director: Alex Morris

No. of years in current post: since 2012

Previous musical experience: Alex began his musical journey at age 6 learning singing and violin; he attended a school with a specialist music program from years 212; he was appointed Musical Director for Perth-based men's barbershop chorus, Vocal Evolution, at age 19, and took that troupe to gold medal wins in the last two national competitions as well as a successful appearance at the 2011 international competition in the USA; Alex is a classical composer, arranger, Musical Director of Southern Lights Men's Chorus, Music Category Specialist of the Australasian Guild of Barbershop Judges, and a sought-after vocal coach nationally; Alex works in artistic administration and stage management

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Recent collaborations include 'Music at the Basilica', 'Anam Cara Benefit Concert', and various performances with or for Barwon Heads Fine Music Society, fellow-Sweet Adeline Choruses and Men's Barbershop Choruses throughout Victoria

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: Yes - a Voice Assessment process is followed, contact the Chorus directly for details

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: Yes

Membership Fees: $60 per month plus a joining fee

Ability to read music: Desirable but not necessary

Sight-reading ability: Desirable but not necessary
