DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: The choir believes that all children can learn to sing tunefully, given the right environment and experiences; their goal is to provide that environment in which children can sing joyfully exploring a range of suitable children's music literature; they do not audition children,all children are welcome; they allow children to hear the sounds of their own voices and become confident singers through interactive play, movement and modelling; children use tools of solfege to build musicianship and musical accuracy

Musical Repertoire: Traditional children's music literature including some African, non-religious gospel, jazz and folk songs from around the world, and simple part work

Musical Director: Anna Mlynek-Kalman

No. of years in current post: since 2000

Previous musical experience: Director of Music at Mount Scopus and Yavneh Colleges over many years, including choir director at the 2 schools through 1980s-1990s

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: The choir has combined with an orchestra to play at the In One Voice Federation Celebration

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: No, but a commitment is expected to complete the year singing with the choir, if wanting to join after a trial session to see if the child enjoys the experience

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: Yes

Membership Fees: Fees are charged pro rata until the end of the sesmester + $100 deposit which is deducted from the Term 4 fee to ensure participants remain for at least the year to gain full benefits

Ability to read music: Not necessary

Sight-reading ability: Not necessary
