DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: A community and concert choir, founded as the Australian Dutch Male Choir, and having members who share a love of choral music and singing

Voice type: All Male Singers

Choir performs: Both unaccompanied and accompanied

Musical Repertoire: Classical, sacred music, opera, musicals, popular music, etc

Musical Director: Lucas de Jong

No. of years in current post: since 2016

Previous musical experience: Lucas has been a professional opera singer and singing teacher for over 20 years; he has been teaching singing at secondary schools, in his own studio and at universities; Lucas holds a Diploma of Music from Melba Conservatorium, a Graduate Diploma of Music from the University of Melbourne Conservatorium, and will soon complete a Masters of Music (Performance Teaching) from the University of Melbourne Conservatorium of Music; his choral conducting experience began as a boy in a Melbourne-based choir and continued when he became Music Director of the Melbourne Welsh Male Choir in 2007, a position he held until Dec 2015; Lucas is currently working with the Melbourne Male Choir in Bayswater, and continues his soloist career touring with Opera Australia; Lucas is delighted that his many years of experience as a chorister, opera chorus member, soloist, conductor and teacher can be shared and passed on to enthusiastic choirs

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Brunswick Ladies Choir, Melbourne Welsh Male Voice Choir, Young Voices of Melbourne, Chor Farmer (Tokyo Uni of Agriculture, Japan)

Membership Fees: $260 p.a.

Ability to read music: Desirable

Sight-reading ability: Desirable
