DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: The choir sings for its own continued enjoyment and the enjoyment of its audiences; meaningful fellowship and relationships have been generated over the 50 years since the choir's establishment; since 1965, the choir has donated $40,000 to its chosen charities; there are three original members

Musical Repertoire: Folk songs, classical and sacred music, music theatre

Musical Director: Margaret Foyster

No. of years in current post: since 1992

Previous musical experience: Choral Singing, choir conducting throughout 50 years, piano teacher for 35 years, Musical Director at churches in Melbourne and Canberra

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: The choir has sung with bands at Council functions and in a massed choir in the Police Academy for the Messiah; some members were able to participate in Carols by Candlelight at the Myer Music Bowl

Audition: Yes - simple 5 minute audition

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: Yes

Membership Fees: $80 p.a.

Ability to read music: Desirable

Sight-reading ability: Desirable

Sample of the Choir's past Concert Venues: Audiences are mostly located in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne: hostels, retirement villages, Probus, Senior Citizens' Clubs, nursing homes, various Church groups and clubs

Examples of musical pieces performed: Australian Songs - I am Australian, Waltzing Matilda; selections from films & shows - Oklahoma, West Side story; Christmas carols from around the world; folk songs from various countries; negro spirituals - My Lord what a morning, Angels watching over me, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Little David, play on yo' harp; religious songs
