DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: The Choir is formed from members of the University of the Third Age (U3A) Hawthorn, which is a community self-help organisation providing a range of adult education and recreational courses for retired and semi-retired people; they aim to enjoy singing together in a supportive atmosphere, extend their choral abilities in a range of genres, and develop a balanced and melodic sound

Voice type: SATB

Choir performs: Both accompanied & unaccompanied

Year Choir formed: 1984

No. of Singing Members - Currently: 45+ Desired: 50

Musical Repertoire: Ballads, traditional songs, classical and sacred music, songs from the shows and a range of other modern works

Musical Director: Julie Lancashire

No. of years in current post: since 2019

Previous musical experience: Singing and conducting in a range of small and large choirs

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: The Choir has performed with a number of other choirs in massed choral events, and with the U3A Orchestra

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: No

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes - the Choir asks for regular weekly attendance at rehearsals as far as possible Concerts: No

Membership Fees: There is an annual membership subscription to U3A Hawthorn, which also provides access to many other courses of U3A

Ability to read music: Highly Desirable

Sight-reading ability: Desirable but not necessary
