DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: To provide an opportunity for women to develop their choral skills in a friendly and supportive environment; to perform at appropriate functions and events; to further members' and non-members' musical appreciation; to produce choral music at a high standard

Musical Repertoire: The choir sings a wide variety of sacred and secular music, including spirituals, madrigals, and contemporary works

Musical Director: Bill Simmons

No. of years in current post: since 2012

Previous musical experience: Bill has extensive experience in music education, having been Director of Music at a number of schools in Melbourne; Bill is currently Choral Director at Caulfield Grammar School; other positions he has held include State Director of Music (Qld) and National Artistic Director with the Australian Youth Choir, Conductor with the Royal School of Church Music Summer School and the University of Queensland Kodaly Summer School; Bill has also been a workshop presenter at the Schools Outreach Program of both Musica Viva and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra; Bill has been an adjudicator at festivals and competitions, including the Royal South Street Eisteddfod; Bill has trained choirs for international groups both in Australia and overseas, working with many groups such as the Philadelphia Boys Choir and Mens Chorale, the English Chamber Singers, the Long Island Youth Orchestra, the Royal Ballet and the Vienna Boys Choir, for whom he has also guest conducted; Billís choral work has also included recording, radio and television appearances, television commercials and ceremonies at major cultural and sporting events both in Australia and overseas, such as the Davis Cup, the Australian Open, the AFL Grand Final, the Seven network's Good Friday Appeal, Christmas Carols with the Ten network, and Channel Nine's Carols by Candlelight; Bill is a member of the Australian National Choral Association and the Kodaly Music Educators Institute of Australia

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition:Yes - sing a prepared piece; ear tests (approx Grade 4 AMEB)

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: No Concerts: Yes

Membership Fees: $450 p.a.

Ability to read music: Essential

Sight-reading ability: Highly desirable
