DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: Established in 1977, The Choir of Trinity College, Melbourne is a pre-eminent vocal ensemble within Australia; comprised of university students, the Choir is the flagship of the College's musical life, receiving international acclaim for their outstanding sacred choral repertoire in chapel services, concerts and recordings

Choir performs: Both accompanied & unaccompanied

Year Choir formed: 1977

No. of Singing Members - Currently: 26 (plus Organist) Desired: 30

Musical Repertoire: Sacred choral repertoire performed in English and Latin for services of Evensong and Eucharist, as well as contemporary concert repertoire for concerts, weddings and College Dinners

Musical Director: Christopher Watson

No. of years in current post: since 2017

Previous musical experience: Former member of The Tallis Scholars, and Director of Music at St Edmund's Hall, Oxford

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (The Messiah 2016, Dream of Gerontius 2018), as well as collaborations with Composers: Sir David Willcocks, Jeremy Sutherland, Stephen Layton, Richard Marlow, Eric Whitacre, David Bednall and Alice Chance

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: Yes - Audition in person arranged with Director of Music

Minimum Attendance policy: Attendance at all rehearsals and Choral services; occasionally asked to sing at additional functions

Membership Fees: None - Choristers and Organists receive a stipend, free singing lessons, meals at Trinity College on a regular basis, opportunities to record CDs and travel interstate and overseas

Ability to read music: Highly desirable

Sight-reading ability: Highly desirable

 

REHEARSAL ARRANGEMENTS

Usual rehearsal night(s): Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sunday afternoons

PERFORMANCES

Performance Apparel: : For Choral services, cassocks and surplices are provided; for concerts, choristers wear all black

Av. No. of Concert Programs/year: 5-10, can be more due to interstate/international tours

Av. No. of Performances/year: 40-50, during University semester time, the Choir usually performs at least twice-weekly at Choral Evensong
