DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: Concordis Chamber Choir aims to enrich Australia's musical diversity through the pursuit of excellence in choral singing; Concordis aims to commission and promote new works by Australian composers, bolstering Australia's choral landscape; Concordis additionally enjoys exploring and discovering works by composers internationally, harnessing and sharing global stories and perspectives

Musical Repertoire: Mixed voice a cappella and accompanied repertoire, with a focus on works by contemporary Australian and 20th Century composers; a wide variety of styles from sacred and gospel, to folksong and secular art music

Musical Director: Philippa Jones

No. of years in current post: since 2019

Previous musical experience: Philippa Jones has been the Music Director of Concordis since 2019, and as a former Concordis chorister she brings a deep understanding of how to work with the Concordis sound; from New Zealand, Philippa studied Music at Otago University with a focus on voice and musicology and is currently Co-Director of Music – Curriculum and Choral at Firbank Grammar School, Melbourne

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra, Con Brio, Choir of Austin College (Texas, USA), Da Capo Singers, Southeastern Philharmonia

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: Yes - brief solo performance, and some aural and sight-reading exercise

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: Yes

Membership Fees: $200 per semester ($400 p.a.) plus any uniform and touring expenses

Ability to read music: Essential

Sight-reading ability: Essential
