DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: Promoting the four-part harmony, barbershop style of music for women; encourage a universal appreciation of this style of music through education and performance

Voice type: All Female Singers

Choir performs: Unaccompanied

Year Choir formed: 1994

No. of Singing Members - Currently: 30 Desired: 35

Musical Repertoire: Current repertoire includes wide variety of styles of music and songs arranged in four part harmony, from Broadway musicals to jazz standards, pop and incorporating Christmas and Australian songs

Musical Director: Robyn Westwood

No. of years in current post: since 2008

Previous musical experience: Singing in shows and concerts and directing for Mountain District Musical Society for 20 years; singing member of East City Sound for 14 years, Assistant Director for 8 years

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: East City Sound joined with other Victorian Sweet Adeline Choruses to form a chorus of over 100 singers singing at The Melbourne Concert Hall to celebrate the Bi-Centenary; the chorus has appeared several times on the same concert stage as several other Melbourne choirs

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: Yes - Show ability to sing one of 4 parts within the chorus; 2 songs to be learned with correct notes and words; learning audio tapes and sheet music are issued

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: No Concerts: Yes

Membership Fees: $100 membership fee, plus $45 per month

Ability to read music: Desirable but not necessary

Sight-reading ability: Highly desirable but not necessary

Examples of musical pieces performed: Many songs drawn from a vast repertoire including up-tempo and ballads, and also incorporating choreography, e.g. Operator, An Irish Blessing, Zing, Went the Strings of My Heart, All That Jazz, The Lord's Prayer, It's Raining Men, Never, Never, Amazing Grace, Rhythm of Life and many Christmas tunes
