Vision statement / Artistic goals: Maroondah Singers provides training for community singers with opportunities for concert performances

Choir performs: Both unaccompanied & accompanied

Year Choir formed: 1968

Musical Repertoire: Ranges from Renaissance to Rock

Musical Director: Lyn Henshall

No. of years in current post: since 2010

Previous musical experience: A graduate of the University of Melbourne and RMIT, Lyn is a retired psychologist and teacher; Lyn plays the piano and the cello but her great love is choral music; she has conducted school and community children's choirs for many years and regularly attends choral conducting courses

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Occasional joint concerts with other choirs

 

JOINING REQUIREMENTS

Audition: Yes - a voice check to determine vocal part

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: Yes

Membership Fees: $38 per month, plus a once-only Internet/sound file fee of $25; 3 free visits are possible

Ability to read music: Desirable but not necessary

Sight-reading ability: Desirable but not necessary

Sample of the Choir's past Concert Venues: Melbourne Concert Hall, Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Whitehorse Centre, various country towns throughout Victoria, Carols by Candlelight at Puffing Billy (Emerald Lake Park & Gembrook), Croydon, Berwick and City of Whitehorse (Nunawading)

Examples of musical pieces performed: Classical works including sacred and secular works by composers such as Vivaldi, Rossini and Rachmaninoff and modern composers such as Ola Gjeilo, Dan Forrest and Eric Whitacre; songs from musicals, spirituals, folk songs from different countries, ballads, pop and rock, sung in English and other languages; recent performances have included If Music Be the Food of Love (Henry Purcell), and Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)

Touring: Yes - Melbourne Metro Area/Regional Victoria
