DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR
Vision statement / Artistic goals: Melbourne Youth Chorale is a community enterprise and its role is to share the gift of music with young people through choral practice, participation and performance; the choir harnesses the transformational power of choral music to develop confident and well-rounded young people; they are dedicated to enriching children's lives by developing choral artistry in a stimulating, caring, and fun environment
Voice type: Children's/Youth - 3 Treble ensembles and an SATB ensemble
Choir performs: Both accompanied & unaccompanied
Year Choir formed: 1986 (as Berwick Childrens Choir and later Berwick Youth Choir)
No. of Singing Members - Currently: 30 in Senior (Jones/Heriot) Choir, 30 in two training choirs (Dunlop and Heffernan) Desired: 40-50 in Maggiore, no particular limit for training choirs
Musical Repertoire: MYC sings classical music from all periods, folk music of many cultures, and quality arrangements of popular music; the choir sings both sacred and secular music; the choir keenly promotes Australian compositions; music is chosen in keeping with Kodaly's dictum that only music of the highest quality is suitable for children

JOINING REQUIREMENTS
Audition: Yes - All new children are welcomed into the choir; children are auditioned for placement in the most appropriate group for their age and ability; Choristers are assessed regularly to ascertain vocal and musical development, and are promoted to the next group when considered ready
Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: Yes
Membership Fees: The choir is run on grants and donations, and choir families are encourage to donate what they can afford in lieu of fees
Ability to read music and sight-reading ability: These skills are taught by the choir - some ability is essential for choristers wishing to enter Jones or Heriot, but not necessary for training choirs
REHEARSAL ARRANGEMENTS

Usual rehearsal night: Wednesday - Heffernan Choir 4:30-5:15; Dunlop Choir 4:30-6 (including a musicianship tutorial); Jones Choir 5:30-7:30 (plus a musicianship tutorial, times vary); Heriot Choir 5-7:30 (plus a tutorial)
