DETAILS ABOUT THE CHOIR

Vision statement / Artistic goals: To prepare and present concerts of a high standard principally for local audiences using local venues

Voice type: SATB

Choir performs: Accompanied by piano, and by the Frankston Symphony Orchestra for some concerts

Year Choir formed: 1978

No. of Singing Members - Currently: 70 Desired: no limit

Musical Repertoire: Traditionally, one concert of an Oratorio or major sacred work, one concert of various items incl. musical and opera choruses accompanied by full orchestra (these may change post-Covid in 2022), and one Christmas concert accompanied by piano

Musical Director: Tom Pugh and Katrina Waters

No. of years in current post: since 2018

Previous musical experience: Both are accomplished musicians in vocal and orchestral work

Choir's past collaborations with other musical groups: Frankston Symphony Orchestra which is part of the Society, with DCINY at Carnegie Hall USA 2017 and 2020, Excelsis choir, Australian Welsh Male Choir, Cranbourne Chorale and Casey Choir, Sir Karl Jenkins in Berlin in 2018, DCINY in Wellington (NZ) in 2017

Audition: No

Minimum Attendance policy - Rehearsals: Yes Concerts: No

Membership Fees: $50 p.a. plus $9 per rehearsal

Ability to read music: Desirable

Sight-reading ability: Not necessary

Examples of musical pieces performed: Requiem (Mozart), Requiem (Faure), The Creation (Haydn), St Cecilia Mass (Gounod), Requiem and Stabit Mater (Jenkins ), Petite Messe Solennelle (Rossini), Carmen (Bizet), Gershwin for Mid-Year concert, and traditional and modern carols for Christmas

Touring: Yes occasionally - the Choir performed in New York in 2017 and 2020, Berlin in 2018, Wellington (NZ) in 2017
