Vision statement / Artistic goals: Quoting from the Victoria Chorale Constitution:

To present choral music at the highest possible standard to the people of Australia and of Victoria in particular; to present a diverse choral repertoire from Australia and overseas; to contribute to the raising of the standard of choral singing within Australia; to perform music in as many venues as possible, particularly within Victoria; to establish a body of persons who are knowledgeable, experienced and skilled in the art of choral singing and to provide them with opportunities of choral performance; to encourage the pursuit of excellence in standards of choral composition within Australia; to provide the experience of choral performance for its members for their enjoyment and not for profit

Musical Repertoire: Particularly varied and covers Renaissance music through to 20th century works; the repertoire includes mainstream classical choral, choral arrangements of folk music, religious choral works, opera choruses, works from Australian arrangers and composers

Previous musical experience: Conductor, percussionist and musicologist, Mario Dobernig was appointed Music Director of Victoria Chorale in 2012; Mario grew up in the Austrian Alps before establishing his professional career in Graz (Austria) and Helsinki (Finland) where he worked extensively with many chamber orchestras and with such eminent ensembles as the Graz Opera, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Tapiola Sinfonietta; since leaving Austria, Mario has studied in Helsinki and more recently with John Hopkins OBE at the University of Melbourne; Mario completed his PhD in 2014; Mario has conducted chamber ensembles at the University of Melbourne, the Victoria College of the Arts Orchestra, the Youth Philharmonic Melbourne, the Ballarat Symphony, Symphony and the Kooyong Chamber Players; he is currently conductor of the Preston Symphony Orchestra and the Ballarat Wind Orchestra
